Reflecting on chapters 2&3 of The Kite Runner

Today we were introduced to chapter 1 of The Kite Runner. This chapter basically talked about how Amir’s past has changed his life. We was assigned to read chapters 2 and 3 tonight. So far in chapter two, Amir is talking about the times when him and Hassan would annoy their neighbors by using a shard of mirror. He’s also giving explaining to the readers some things he has encountered as a child that possibly  had an effect on his life now.  I kind of felt sad for Amir when he would try to join in with the grown ups but Baba would turn him away. Both Hassan and Amir are very similar when it comes to their mothers. They do not really know who their mothers are. Hassan’s mother ran off a week after he was born and Amir’s mother died from hemorrhages during birth. A part of this chapter that I find to be kind of disturbing is when they encountered the soldiers. The soldiers was being very disrespectful and rude to Hassan. I felt bad that he had to encounter that. Chapter 3 focuses on Amir’s relationship with his father. It also talks about  Baba’s success. Baba runs an orphanage and he’s also one of the richest merchant in Kabul. Amir would be really excited and proud to do things for his father. He also tells a story about the fight his father had with a bear. What really caught my attention is when he called this a laaf, which is an Afghan tendency to exaggerate almost a natural affliction. As soon as I read this I thought of a Hyperbole.
